The Kingdom of Alfafanar
Founded after The Sundering, The Kingdom of Alfafanar is located on the small and nigh unaccessible plateau of Alfan, in the middle of The Sickle. Its unique geography helps to form a vast, lush garden in the center of the barren and dusty continent. It is also renowned for being the place where famous people come from, and even has a small museum displaying the large number of "chosen ones" that are its expatriates.
Alfafanar is the setting for tale The Five Chosen Ones.
History
The Clans
The plateau was originally settled by several bands of migrating tribes. Finding themselves in a place of infinite bounty where they would never have to work again, they immediately set about killing each other. Each generation, the clans would skirmish, until a leader would arise to unite half the clans against another leader who was just happening to be uniting half the clans against him. Eventually, the two armies would go at it in the center of Alfan, and in the ensuing confusion, the two warlords were killed. The survivors would then return home, and father the next generation of fighters. This continued until the rise to power of Cedric the Bastard.
The Founding of the Kingdom
As usual, two Warlords had arisen to unite the clans. One was Lion the Brian-Hearted, who was known for assimilating clans by simply beating their leaders to death with their own dismembered limbs, and Cedric the Bastard, who used stealth and cunning to destroy his rivals. Ultimately, the two faced each other on the plains, the largest armies ever in Alfafanian history at their backs. They had both realized that eventually, the circle of violence had to end. Lion challenged Cedric to a duel, as was his wont, and Cedric agreed. Cedric won, after Lion was found two minutes before the duel, with what is reported to be "a seven score arrows perforating his body". Cedric was crowned King, and built Castle Anonymous, named after his father.
The End?
Unusually, no end of the Kingdom is recorded in any canonical source. It's possible that it continued to thrive until the end of the world. It is however recorded that since Alfafanar has such a high concentration of "chosen ones" that in the end times, many of the Communities of Prophecy Incarnate sprung up in the outskirts of this kingdom. The most notable of these of course is Imminent Dale.
Economics
Alfafanar has a powerhouse economy. Being positioned on the sources of several mighty rivers, with access to huge amounts of lumber and food as well as a large number of ore-rich mountains, it has essentially created a monopoly in nearly all trade. While only Alfan is officially part of Alfafanar, this monopoly makes all neighboring countries merely petty fiefdoms, and puts the Kings firmly in charge of currency and other economic components of Battal. They also control the Guild of Free Traders for when they want to seem impartial.
