The Battle of an Unbelievably Easy Victory

When the Vampyre Lord Vhadxi reawoke from his epochal slumber in year 26,780 (TU), he made the assumption that little had changed since he last stalked the lands of Battal. His first actions were driven by what he knew of the world when he was sealed in the CryptoCrypt. Thirst for conquest driving him, he quickly raised a dark Vampyre army in the southern lands. Working quickly and under shadow of night he amassed a legion of undead with which he would sweep north across the lands, bringing them under his war banner as in the days of old.

But this was not to be the case.

Not by a long shot.

In year 26,788 (TU), Vhadxi swept north into Parsonya and villages and outlying communities began to fall to the advancing horde. It was a very short time later that word of the approaching Vampyres reached the ears of the staff of Grimm Elemenstati Akademia, school of Elemenstation.

The professors gathered the staff and particularly gifted students, and struck out to outlands, to stop the tide of undead before their ranks could swell further.

The night when Vhadxi came onto the plains leading his eager army north, the land was brightly lit by the light of the full moon. Standing before him was a motley band of perhaps 30 people, some of whom appeared to be merely children.

Vhadxi leaned low on his donkey mount, squinting in the moonlight at the distant huddled band. "I say. They look like a rather queer sort of Harbingers. No matter. They shall be no match for the horde."

He signalled to the general on his left to move forward, sweeping past the ragtag troupe, and instructed the general on his left to move his forces to the west, but to take a small detachment to deal with the scribes. Perhaps their knowledge would be useful, once redirected to his purpose. --The Dawn of Unlight's Setting, Part 1: The Rise of Dusk

But these were not Harbingers, although the trappings of that order shaped many of the ways of the Elemenstors. When Vhadxi turned, he witnessed great gouts of flames spewing forth from the group, and consuming the small Vampyre detachment he had sent.

"Sorcerers, eh? Well, no matter. I have dealt with their kind before. Soon they will have exhausted their powders and scrolls. They will still be ours." --The Dawn of Unlight's Setting, Part 1: The Rise of Dusk

So he redirected his western forces, instructing his general to wheel about the whole force to attack en masse. The Vampyres were slaughtered as they rushed forward across the plains. Bolts of lighting, licks of fire, and giant crushing boulders cutting wide swaths in the waves of undead.

Assuming that the sheer numbers would be sufficient, when the western flank had dwindled, Vhadxi dispatched a messenger to his eastern division, which had been ignoring the battle, to turn and fight.

Horrified and stunned, standing on a rocky outcropping, Vhadxi watched his vampyre army dwindling to nothing as more and more of his forces rushed into the maelstrom of light and energy that was spewing forth from the tiny band of magicians.

As it became apparent to Vhadxi that he had witnessed a complete rout, and the sun was threatening to peek up over the misty eastern mountains, Vhadxi fled. Confused and alone. Determined to discover what this strange and awesome power was that was weilded by this small band of conjurers that managed to wipe out his entire force.
