Summary

There is a tense five-minute prelude to the massive, battle-heavy episode as Char Reyarteb's vast airship, Destroyer of Battal, looms ever closer as the throngs of heroes gather. Mayumi and Yellow Fang are in different divisons, and say a few parting words as the immense war machine hovers closer, readying to spew forth its monstrous payload.

Then the tide of battle hits, and all kinds of animation-budget-chewing-hell breaks loose. The combat, in contrast with the over-the-top affair usually associated with ELOTH:TES, is a gritty and difficult affair, with Mayumi mowing through her enemies while ankle-deep in mud, shivving those too close to hack with her sword and slouching towards healers when injured. By the episode break the battle is halfway complete, with the Four Underdogs engaging Char Reyarteb.

When the episode resumes, Mayumi withdraws to comprehend the scale of the battle she's in. She runs into Rink Godspeed, who offers a few words of advice before plunging back into the fray.

Soon after she re-enters, Mayumi is assaulted by a general in Reyarteb's army, a vicious and well-armored armored Vampyre named Riptide. The vampyre exchanges withering barbs in between his teasing, taunting, and gravely-wounding sword style, paring Mayumi down specifically so he can drain her "delicious stigmatic's blood." It's Rink Godspeed that smashes Riptide over the head and distracts him long enough for the Four to swing back around and finally kill Reyarteb. Horrified at the loss of their leader, the remnants of the army retreat. The battle is won.

Notes

The details of this episode have been acquired by a fan who bought the scriptwriters a lot of drinks at a local bar; while the two reputedly get smashed like porcelain under a printing press, they are surprisingly lucid.
