Quick note: I'm going to hold off posting any longer excerpts (and thus I am ignoring some more minor characters) until I have a clear idea of any intellectual property concerns. God knows I don't want to infringe on Mr. Brahe's control of his (excellent) creation.

I don't think its a problem at all if you want to write up the American version, if have a copy available. What's Brahe going to do to you from his undisclosed location? Just about everything you have so far is just about the way I remember it.

I believe that the Halfmen constitute the threat in this volume, rather than the Rath'can. I haven't read the volume for years myself and can't find any local copies, but I would suggest that you check out the secondary literature in the archives of alt.fan.elothtes for verification. dan.heck

Apologies. As should be noted from the reference to Underhere Publishing, I'm working off a retranslated Finnish version of the novel. All corrections appreciated.

Don't be so quick to buckle under, lad. I have been doing some research, and it appears that Brahe himself was able to sneak the original version of Book 8 past the censors, but he had to do it in Finnish. Your volume may be ENTIRELY CORRECT! Do you know what this means? I have been checking every website I can for complete Finnish collections of elothtes, and I have come close to completing the collection. Unfortunately, I do not read Finnish. Since you are lucky enough to have your hands on a retranslated version, I feel it is your duty so share it with us, the true believers, so that we may discover the inherent message Brahe has encoded. Quickly, before all the Finnish copies are destroyed! -TychoCelchuuu

To dan.heck: On the surface of the narrative, the obvious threat is the Reth'can. However, delving deeper, one can see that Mr. Brahe was finally beginning to come into his own as of Book 8, and began experimenting with the emotions of the reader as they apply to the perception of the protagonists and antagonists. One reading only on the surface, taking away no more than the Cliff's Notes version would publish, would see the Rath'can as the obvious threat; one who is delving deeper into the art of Mr. Brahe will realize that this is his device to separate the true fans, who realize that the Halfmen are really the antagonists, from the posers. -Dan
