Boxcar Thurgood Brown

In perhaps an incredibly misguided attempt to inject "diversity" into the cycle, Boxcar Thurgood Brown was Mardrangion's personal black valet in Book 2, and the first black character to be presented in the cycle, although he would not be the last.

He was essentially presented as Mardrangion's slave, and his low intellect and incredibly streotyped dialogue drew criticism from just about everybody. In more recent editions of the book, Boxcar is changed to a Parapalegic Simian, although his dialogue is untouched, as are references to him as "Mardrangion's pickaninny" and "Negro boy", which doesn't really do much to help the situation.

"Is yo' sho' we gunna be alright, Massa Mardrangion? I gotsa visit my Mammy nes month, or she gonna put dat voodoo whammy on me! Sho' nuff, Massa!" --Book 2

It should be noted that darked skinned humans, as well as various other ethnic variants, were depicted in the art of various character cards from the CCG even before the printing of The Elemenstor Cycle.
