Breakened Battal
Also See: The Great Breakening
In year -19,230 (TH), Battal was shattered by a freak Geotelespacial Fractarent (or, according to some, a Giant Meteoric Cow) into a series of 16 fair sized islands, each forming its own nation. Battal remained breakened until reformed by Genja Hii in -4,420.
In many cases, these islands were the precursors to the nations of the twelve realms that would form during the era of the Magic Sword Kings. Once Battal was reformed, in several cases the physical perimeters of the islands became the guide for the placement of the borders of new kingdoms. Kingdoms such as Parsonya, Yymp and Graha were largely defined by the isolated cultures that arose during this period. Other islands saw cultures flourish in this period, but fade (or find itself entirely erased from time) with the reformation of the continent, as was the case for the islands of "Tropica" and "Bloodwake Madness Island."
Additionally, some things appeared on these islands in apparently from the far flung future, for example the Long Road of The Island of Parsonya. Things being out of joint in both time, place, and relation was a common theme for this era and could perhaps be another reason why historians tend to gloss over this era.

Discussion
I'm having trouble finding any place that definatively lists all 16 islands (not including Portundia, the islet which continually applied for but was denied island status). Seems like the island names are spread all over the various texts. Does anybody remember others? Pretty sure there was an "Isle of Blackest Minathok" or something.. -Tim |
