Broken Link Days
Bi-monthly on the 23rd of the month.
Pre-Registration for Event
Broken Link Day helps us to enrich the world the ELotH:TES by assigning "research topics" about neglected portions of our wiki. All participants "pre-register" for the event, and have other participants give you your assignments! All participants get to pick out a total of four (4) links from Broken Links or List of Stubs for their fellow participants to fill. Please, spread your picks over different participants instead of loading them up on one. Please "sign" when you pick a link for someone so they know who to blame!
NOTE: If you don't feel like assigning four links to others, don't let that stop you from signing up, somebody will certainly pick up the slack before the day hits.
Feel free to fill in more than four if you want, but see if you can stop yourself from creating any new broken links in those articles. An excellent place to start if you're looking for "low hanging fruit" is the most wanted page. There's lots of information in the related links to "stimulate your memory."
Enjoy!
December '08 BLD
Any thoughts on how to do this one?
I liked the way we did the October one but we need to recruit more people. --bfg00
I've been quite busy, and filling in increasingly-obscure links is losing some of its appeal, I admit. It's a little strange to think of someone paying a monthly fee for this wiki which has kind of become a deserted playground, its caretaking trio maintaining it against the day when it will surely be remembered and flooded with guests... surely. It's been a long time since there was even a mention on PA. --Kenneth Pike
True that. Someone could try shooting Tycho an e-mail about it, although I like having it feel more fluid than that. If only I had gotten the chance to ask a ELotH question at the PAX Q&A this year... Oh well, we will keep up the good fight for the day when they do mention it again. As for obscure links, sadly most of the low hanging fruit has been taken thus far. There is still quite a bit to do though. --bfg00
Hehe.. it's the Chrome Garden. If we each take 4 from the most wanted page, we'd knock out the 12 most wanted links on the site. (with 12 through 8 references). Perhaps that'd be good "closure" until a time in the distant future when the site is "wanged" again.
Sounds good. Let's do that. --bfg00
Or, you know, the not-so-distant future. Although technically, I guess today's comic is about that Sorcelator trash. Also, I am SO BEHIND. d^_^b --Kenneth Pike
I saw that and it looks like it will be an extended series. I haven't seen the rant yet though. Hopefully the wiki is mentioned, for we must thwart any attempts by TSoS to corrupt the ELotH fanbase. Also don't worry about being behind, I've been so busy lately I haven't had a chance to finish off my broken links yet. --bfg00
Up for grabs
October '08 BLD
We're doing something a little bit different this month. Each person pick a 4-link broken page from least complete and post it here. Then for BLD, pick one of the proposed pages (not proposed by you) and fill in the four broken links.

Group Projects
Although Broken Link Day is currently used to assign each-other links to fill, some people have mentioned that a connected Group Project would be a good option. I am going to post each BLDs Project here, voting for the project can likely be done on the Discussion page. Februarys is pre-decided, as it is the shortest project, so the best to ease into the concept with.

Discussion
Sweet! A few months of this and we'll get done with the D's! -TychoCelchuuu
I was there on the frontlines. -Jute Mill
Participating was one of the first things I did around here. Now I try to do it as often as I can -- Simon.
Do item laws and other members of the long lists we have such as elements or Rothgar's Titles's count?
You bet!
And somebody is getting cyclical unidirectional shifted eight point social hierarchy diagram
BooYa!
I will take this cyclical unidirectional shafted eight point social hierarchy diagram, although I do not know the way. - Jute to the Mill
Do we have anyone participating in this BLD that was at Elemenstorm '99? Because it's high time someone bit the bullet and clarified the events of the Haukberk Incident. - Wote
I think that if you get the link assigned to you, it is your responsibility to find someone who was there and make the entry. :) -tim
Also I think people should be able to choose from the completely stubby section of the List of Stubs as those are basically broken links without the red color. -Quizatzhaderac
I did that which I came to do. All praise Thoth-Hermes! - Jutey Mc Millan
whew.. I was dreading that literary criticism all week. -Tim
Finished the first level of Bard Skill, but might not be able to get to the others until later, thanks to good ol' BFG spreading the information out over about six different books. -Wote
Perfectly fine, Wote, understandably difficult to pull off-- Although finding that Bard Skill table is more then I expected-- I never expected to find it myself, 'till a shop employee told me it was in the Pick Pocket book! Great to see a fellow fan of BFG products! Also, I have been told to pass along a message that Xandershim may be late on his last two assignments-- Somewhat restricted net access, so he may not be posting 'till tommarow or Saturday. ~Ariamaki
Lots of Battles are going to be described. Which warms my belly. - Jake
Well, it is something that's needed doing for a long time. There is no reason, aside from laziness, for these entries to have gone unfilled for so long. Especially the remaining seventeen final battles. -Wote
Someone has to fill in tha battles of timidity and indecisiveness. Not me.-Jake

Well if they don't get filled in soon we can say they are up for grabs or reassignment for this upcoming BLD.

We still have a number of links broken from the Dec. BLD.

The Broken Links page is very incomplete, undoubtedly due to a problem with Mindless Automoton. It stops abruptly partway through the A's.

I think on this BLD we should focus on Stubs. Or at least that is what I am going to do.

I don't know if this is possible but if someone could run the MA before BLD that would be terrific. I have been placing scripts at the bottom of the STUBs that were chosen that hopefully will find all the pages that link to the STUB. Thanks in advance.

Just a quick note, I'm in the middle of finals so my BLD entries might be a bit late. But my last final is on Tuesday the 24th so not *too* late. d^_^b

So the mindless automaton would apparently work, but the backup zip download apparently fails almost all the time now...
Kenneth Pike said
at 6:40 pm on Dec 20, 2007
Last time that was a pbwiki issue--the wiki got too big for their backup script to handle. But I was able to download it just fine...
Tim said
at 7:39 pm on Dec 20, 2007
if its like the editing, then the download probably fails the first time after a wiki change... I'll see if we can have the download attempt twice before giving up.
