CoolCats

Not to be confused with Cool Cats, which are Hipness Elemenstors.

"While it is common knowledge that Tribbits are terrible at Elemenstation, they do often display an aptitude for Ice Magic. Tribbit Ice Mages are referred to as CoolCats." -- a tidbit mentioned conversationally in Book 3 by Gavment Rayling.

First appearing by name in Book 3, the mention of CoolCats appeared to be a throw away reference, not brought into the story or mentioned again in the rest of the narrative. What was created from this though is one of the most enduring character classes within the ELotH: TES - Pen and Paper RPG.

Perhaps it was the image of Gavment himself that inspired the artist to paint a broad rimmed blue felt hat placed jauntily on the head of the CoolCat on the back of that first core rules book. His casual stance, fat buckled belt, oversized trousers, and gleaming snow rod became instantly recognizable and a beloved cliche within the player community. Most players have a similarly styled wise cracking CoolCat in their list of fondly remembered early generated characters, based off of Wat Phan from the sample campaign that can be found on the dog eared page 61 of that hallowed tome.

Outgoing and wise in the ways of the world, CoolCats display a demeanor quite unusual for the typical provincial Tribbit. It is said that 1 in 4,000 Tribbits display an innate affinity with the Element of Ice and can create and manipulate it through an innate use of Magic rather than Elemenstation. These CoolCats almost invariable are possessed by a wanderlust that drives them to leave home at an early age, but apparently there is no stigma nor admiration amongst other Tribbits for those born with this ability.

CoolCats who do not hone their abilities often become itinerate snow-cone salesmen, but those who dilligently practice their abilities often become powerful Ice Mages, well respected by the wise and the powerful.

A band of hardy CoolCats became well known for their unusual role in the Battle of the Fish Markets.
