Corsair

The slightly more heroic version of Pirates. Also known as Privateers, Corsairs were crews of sea-faring heroic scoundrels. To the average person, there was not much difference between a Corsair and a Pirate, except that the Corsair was about 66% less likely to stab and rape you.

Their age of greatness was during The Great Breakening. They were contracted sailors and mercenaries hired by the 16 governments at the time for protection, reclaiming stolen booty, exploring and navigating Battal's new geography, slaying sea-monsters, transporting valuable cargo, and keep the fish population in check.

When not contracted to perform daring rescues of daring-do, Corsairs tended to shamelessly prey on random lone pirate-ships, or eachother. Unlike pirates, they usually did not raid innocent civilian towns, as it was bad for business.

Despite trying to gain an aura of raw power, romanticism, and eroticism like their more piratical counterparts, they were sometimes regarded as "Pussy Do-Goodie Pirates", a concept which they detested. In many ways, Corsairs were the Assorted Heroes of the sea.

A significant number of Corsairs somewhat skilled Moisteners, as well.
