Curse of the Guranbignoth (グランビノスの撥)

ElamenSTAR (R), Episode 201

Aired 31st December 1996

Summary

Before the first commercial break:

Mayumi was a typical Japanese school girl, but she never really felt like she fit in for reasons that soon become apparent. One day she meets a stranger and witnesses a battle with horrifying monsters; Mayumi leaps in with her box cutter, Gladys, to help him out, only to end up injuring him as well as helping to slay the monsters in her blind battle rage. When he disappears all that is left is a strange locket, which she picks up, intending to pawn for box-cutter money. Picking up locket transports her to Battal, a fantastical land of sorcery and furnitor where she again meets up with the stranger, one of the Epic Wolf Men of Mount Wor, named Yellow Fang, and his friend named Gyermo, a spearmaster. The party are attacked by Dolphinthropes and Mayumi's amulet changes into a glowing white sword decorated with dove feathers, and soon discovers that she has both skill with it and the Knack for Air Elemenstation.

After the break:

The Wizbits come across a party of adventurers battling Dolphinthropes and pitch in to help.

In the end evil is defeated and Mayumi departs with her new friends.

Throughout this season, two dwarves, Ten & Tan, keep appearing trying to sell their dwarven crafted goods in order to make some easy money. Invariably, whatever they have created will explode before it can be sold or put to good use, leaving the dwarves to say "Auch... I knew that was a weegin." (meaning unclear)

Comments

Guranbignoth is inscribed on the locket in this episode, but I'm not sure that being transported to Battal with a magic sword is exactly a curse. -tim
It is, at least in the Chinese sense: "May you live in interesting times." -Jute Mill Away Team
I don't think that she killed "the stranger" since it ends up being yellow fang... he even mentions seeing her fight in her own dimension when they team up in Battal. -tim
I blame the fansub I saw. Sorry about that--maybe the branding, "A K.F. Group Production", should have implied a certain slant to the translation. -Jute Mill
