Enchanters

Enchanters are most often associated with sorcery, and are sometimes even considered a subsect of sorcerers. The truth is that that association is entirely accurate, as a High Elemenstor would rarely ever bother doing something as mundane as Enchanting something. An Enchanter is traditionally either a Low Elemenstor or a Sorcerer who specializes in imbuing objects with magical powers, in accordance with the Item Laws and several normal conventions.

Many peasants and Elemenstards believe enchanting to be a complex and difficult profession. In actuality, apart from dealings with the Item Law Makers Guild, enchanting is very easy. The real difficulty is creating items which can hold good enchantments. Once an item is created anybody who's taken the weekend enchanting course can apply any possible enchantment to it.

Oddly, many uses of Enchanting seem to run into Law 69 more often then not... Speculation on this matter is best considered Unspeakable .

Most Popular Enchantments

+# Weapon Power - Increases the damage done by a weapon by said #, most commonly +1, although and +6 have appeared on longswords and even +18 on a butterknife.

"Pen is mightier" - Doesn't actually have anything to do with pens. The most popular enchantment in Battal. Said Br'kul'aan the Mispoken "I've spent a pretty penny on similar products in the past, I don't mind telling you, and if the pen is mightier really works I'll order a dozen!"

Greater Shininess - Enhances the ability of an item to reflect light. Makes an item looks cooler.

Lesser Shininess - Decreases the ability of an item to reflect light. Useful for those who wish to sneak around or reduce the risk of valuable (valuable things typically are shiny) items being stolen.

Auto-Tailoring - Immediately adjusts the size and shape of equipment to exactly that of the wearer. The adjustment is often so perfect that equipment becomes utterly unwearable to all except the original user.

Text Abridgment - Enchants a book, or bookshelf, to display only a a small portion of text (typically 1/2-3 pages) that the reader would find most interesting. While scholars greatly protest this truncation of information most citizens of Battal aren't even able to notice this due to their limited attention spans.

Fresh/Flowery Smell - Replaces the current odor of something with a fresh and/or flowery smell. This enchantment is absolutely essential as most citizens' of Battal lack toilets.

+1 Ploughing - Enhances the ability of a plough to break Earth. Not everything can be cool, some things in a world have to be boring.

Rustproofing - Protects metal objects from the effects of oxidation. Usually sold as a compulsory add on to items to hide their true price.
