The Fire Ants of Battal are very different from those of Earth. They are five times larger, have a pair of dexterous hands, actually breathe fire, have a complex hierarchy, and have some limited teleportation abilities. Fire Ants also speak in a dialect similar to that of Australian English. They live in tiny colonies made of dirt and full of thousands of Fire Ants, ruled over by a gigantic queen who constantly lays more Fire Ants. Their ultimate goal is to spread and gain knowledge and order. Females are considerably larger than men, and all Fire Ants are capable of attack via mandibles, claws, fiery breath, or boomerangs that every Fire Ant carries.

Despite their intelligence, numbers, and rigid social structure, Fire Ants still find themselves easy prey for Battal's population of bears, dragonflies, and frogs, who all have ways of overcoming the little creatures and devouring them.
