Gnarled Land Squid

Gnarled Land Squid are unusual in that they aren't technically squid. Also, they float in the air rather than traveling on land. Although not particularly gnarly in appearance, scholars agree that the land squid are unfathomably gnarly in other ways. When pressed for details, these scholars generally avoid the question.

Ushinshin, one of Battal's six constellations is one of these creatures, it's long starry tentacles stretching across most of the southern sky. The name "Ushinshin" is so common for domesticated Gnarled Land Squids that it is rather akin to naming a dog "spot." This is the rather predictable and uncreative name which Myrtle Breakwind gives to her familiar in The Underdogs of Rubian of the ElemenstorLance series.

They are the preferred food of falconhawks.
