Gorilla
Bogyn's Nastiness Rating: -11 (Harmless)
There is some confusion regarding the role (or rather, non-role) of gorillas in The Elemenstor Saga. Certainly, it is not unusual for works of fantasy to avoid using 'real' animals in favour of mythical creatures. The real confusion lies in the fact that in canon, gorillas seem to simultaneously exist and not exist.
There are several mentions of gorillas (see: Siezor) in the original Tycho Brahe cycle. At other times, however (most notably in the introduction to Book Four, penned by Mr. Brahe himself) it is made undeniably clear that gorillas do not exist in the world of Battal. Further confusing the matter is that gorillas, while mentioned, do not appear in the books; at the same time, it is never shown that they do not appear.
Contradictions of this nature are usually attributed to author Tycho Brahe's "Drinking and Pill Binge" stage of writing.
Discussion
But if you look at the entry for Siezor you will note that one of it's known non-powers is: The ability to produce a gorilla from midair. You would assume that any mention of a gorilla in this fashion among the texts implies its existence in the world. However, it could be that the reason Siezor cannot produce a gorilla from midair is due to the fact that gorillas do not exist. Truly, it is an epic puzzle. |
Gorilla seems redundant both as Siezor is a snake, not Gorilla, and because it is *obvious* to any true fan that Book 4 was never the work of Tycho Brahe. Up with Tycho! Viva la revolucion epica! |
