Grammelgrap

Grammelgrap refers very generally to the chaotic and frequently inhospitable northwestern regions of the The Shield. It has, over the centuries, played home to Antique Furniliars, Arildi, Dwarves, Elf-Witches, Extremely Elves, Gorthmaugs, Octobavarians, and a host of human fisherfolk.

Because of the chaos that is the region's defining characteristic, it is hard to speak generally of Grammelgrap. Some say that only two things hold true across the entire region:

  1. There is great treasure around every corner... guarded by horrific, murderous, savage, hateful beasts.
  2. There is much liquor.

Others would argue that these two unifying characteristics technically qualify as only one unifying characteristic.

History

Long after the Vampyric Wars, the areas once known as Ithbarg and Ithbarg II became known collectively as the land of Grammelgrap, a land of beasts and fowl creatures. Few venture into Grammelgrap, which is bordered by inhospitable Farnvania to the east and the even less hospitable land of The Dank to the south. Grammelgrap is the location of many of the "evil" kingdoms of Battal, including Affenlichtbaum, the second largest tree-city of the Gorthmaugs, into which the Good Elemenstors of Book 11 make a daring raid.

Geography

Northwestern region of The Shield, divided fairly evenly (and isolated from the rest of Battal by the great Beutrafficades mountain range. Were it not for the excellent dwarven ale, dwarven scotch, dwarven grog, dwarven mead, dwarven iced chai latte, Octobavarian beer, Octobavarian Bitchinbrau, and shadow wine available in the region, traders and merchants would probably avoid the nearly inaccessible region entirely. There is also, however, a thriving trade among the non-human inhabitants of the region in Man Meat. Needless to say, most (civilized) trade is conducted by boat.
