Grand Chief

The supreme chieftain of the various Troll tribes. Although Troll tribes mostly govern themselves as familial units the Grand Chief, typically the biggest, meanest, strongest troll, is acknowledged to have the executive powers described in the Blood Rights, the sacred law of the Troll Chieftains. First among the Blood Rights is the right of the Grand Chief to call Trungang, or a meeting of the tribes.

Typically, a tribute is payed by all the tribes to the tribe of the Grand Chief, therefore making the Grand Chief's membership in the tribe not only a point of pride for the tribe but also a substantial source of income. The Grand Chief is often also the leader of his associated tribe, but this is not always the case.

The length of rule of a particular Grand Chief is determined largely by the popularity, intrusiveness and/or strength of the individual. Some Trolls have been known to hold the position well into the twilight years where during other periods the right of rule will pass rapidly from one bloodthirsty and ambitious "New Troll" (a troll just having passed the rites of adulthood within their tribe) to another in the span of a season.

A Grand Chief sits upon the "well rought chair" which is taken with office and the symbol of power. This chair was replaced by ornate and distinctly un-troll-like God-Throne by the half-giant Grand Chief Brothic Gandlebar, but the chair was eventually returned to use after his fall from power.
