The Great Nation of Nar

The Nar as a people have their beginnings in the times after the Sundering. They first enter history as a small band of wandering Telesorcellors whose travels brought them to the verdent land of Blee sometime around 11,000, which at that time had been abandoned ever since the fall of its Kingdom in the Vampyric Wars. The origins of these wanderers is lost to the mists of time but it is often put forth that they came from the ruins of Kelembad. Their origins aside, the society they built over the next 2000 years rivalled any in The Shield and recalled the glory of previous eras.

Their economy was dependent on their magik, which freed their industry from the need for labor or mechanical power for transportation. This enabled the society to be both advanced and unindustrialized, resulting in a good sized, happy populace. Indeed, when the Great Nation of Nar was founded by the first Great Sorcellor Narend, it was not out of a need for national defense but out of a need to celebrate the incredible nature of their wonderful society.

This happiness was not to last, however. As with all utopias, the first incarnation of the Great Nation of Nar soon became corrupt as the gift for telesorc'ley became more rare and those with it formed an elite ruling class in the late 14,000s. Great Sorcellor Narinna, seeing the problem as it occurred, drew all of the telesorcellors loyal to her and set about to discover the problem. It ends up that the use of their magic on such a wide-spread scale was draining the ability from each successive generation. So, the nation was reformed, the population forcibly reduced (through the teleportation of its peoples in small groups all over The Shield) until it reached a sustainable state, in which the proportion of telesorcellors was sufficient to maintain the industry. In order to enter into a more harmonious bond with nature, the Nar began to live in the rolling hills of Blee and only appeared in small groups over-land and only then when necessary.

So it was that when Brothic Gandlebar used his abilities as Servant of the Elements to send his vision out on the wind and scout out the lands of The Shield, Blee appeared empty and ready for the taking. It was with great surprise that his invading army encountered a fully functioning and organized Great Nation of Nar in 15,854. The ensuing First Battle of Blee resulted in the death of Great Sorcellor Naron and most of the nation, whose dying act was to teleport the entire army of Giants and Trolls across the mountains to the Mardath Highlands. This only bought them 12 years respite, though, and the Nar passed out of history after they were almost completely destroyed in the Second Battle of Blee in 15,866. Those who survived teleported themselves to safety, but the height of culture and human achievement that was Nar would never be seen again.
