Back to Elemenstor

High Elemenstor

A practicioner of High Elemenstation. Elemenstors must train for many years to obtain this rank, apprenticing themselves to more experienced High Elemenstors to learn the secrets of this trade (in this context, in many cases, "apprenticing" is interchangable with "whoring").

While an Elemenstor is in training to become a High Elemenstor, he or she is known as a Low Elemenstor for traditional reasons although this terms has been used to describe so many things that it generally has ceased to mean anything at all.

The powers of the High Elemenstor, or those on the path to becoming one include, the ability to strike gears and ultimately to entreat Elementals to directly and corporeally manifest themselves as Elemanifestations. This art, discovered by Harbinger Portent* as revealed by the Starborn Gem makes High Elemenstors unique in all of Battal.

During The Great Elemenstruation, High Elemenstors were reasonably plentiful, though, in reality, all they mostly did was just flashed their powers around to impress members of the opposing sex (as well as for certain...other purposes...once said members were suitably impressed. For more information on this, see The Unspeakable).

Weapons of the High Elemenstor

While it is a matter of public record that even a half trained Elemenstor can weild his craft unaided by any devices, most choose, for reasons of convienience and flashy-ness, to channel their powers through a weapon or tool of some sort, the best known of which is the Elemenstave, which the High Elemenstor usually crafts by hand when he or she acheives said rank.

Elemenstors and Elemanifestations

There exist several described systems within ELotH:TES canon that describe an Elemenstors relation to the Elementals and Elemanifestations.

The first theory (the Elemental Pact) states that Elemenstors couple with Specific Elementals in order to channel their power, and each of these Elementals has a specific ability set and power level that in turn affect the power wielded by that Elemenstor. The other theory is that Elemenstors when striking gears attract Elemanifestations (Elementals) from the Elmether when they strike gears and the power of the Elemental that is drawn is determined by the power of the Elemenstor. This second theory is what is described in the Pen and Paper RPG and also matches the narratives in The Elemenstor Cycle, but it appears that the second system (known as "System Two") is the direction currently being pushed by Realmworlds Publishing. There are of course fractures and debates that are hotly raging in the fan forums about these percieved changes. The impact on System Two on the CCG and RPG rules has yet to be determined.

The Elemental Pact

Elemenstors form a pact with an Elemental in a secret ceremony known as the Elim Ritual. This creates a bond between the Elemenstor and the Elemental, allowing the Elemenstor to channel the powers of the Elemental or (in High Elemenstation), to materialize the Elemental out of the Elmether and into the physical plane for brief periods of time. In return, the Elemental gets to "ride shotgun" in an Elemenstor's mind, able to feel, hear, sense, smell, and taste the Elemenstor's experiences, although the Elemenstor is not usually aware of their prescence. This allows the Elemental to be entertained, and to experience the physical world, since they describe the Elementher as "pretty damn boring". Elementals can form pacts with many different Elemenstors, and can even be in many places at once. This sometimes creates odd situations where an Elemental beats the crap out of itself.

* A few other notable figures in history actually appear to have independantly discovered the secrets of High Elemenstation, but did not pass on their knowledge, nor did they call it "High Elemenstation" so really they don't count.
