Human Day

Invented by Quilpo, this Quilp holiday involves kidnapping a bunch of sleeping humans from the nearest village, digging a hole, and then cramming them into it.

Supposedly, if the human sees his shadow upon emerging from the hole, it means that summer will last three more weeks. No Quilp actually believes this, they just find the whole affair incredibly hilarious.

There is a well-known Arildi legend (also popular among the Quilp) about a cynical Arildi who, while visiting Quilpopolis on Human Day because he had been chosen to tell those Arildi who did not attend about the events of the day, found himself stuck in a time warp, living the same day over and over again, unable to break the cycle even with his own death. Unlike any counterpart the story may have in our world, this legend has no moral - it is revealed at the end that Quilpo had decided on a whim to torment the Arildi, who ultimately ended the cycle by managing to knock Quilpo unconscious seconds before midnight. Quilpo has neither confirmed nor denied rumors that this legend may be true and based upon the Arildi's reports of his ordeal.
