Okay I read the James Bort stuff. I have to admit it made me laugh but it just doesn't seem to fit in anywhere. It totally COULD though. We just need to find a way to make it fit, perhaps change some of the language, make it a legend the people of Battal talk about, but not something that happened?

First of all, lets keep this page out of character. I complete agree with the Roig Syndrome thing. Delete it! How about the James Bort pages? The writing style doesn't fit in with anything else, and it the whole thing is just... wrong. -CJ

I haven't really looked at the Bort stuff, but I took a quick glance. The style is definitely out of sync with the rest of the ELotH "encyclopedia" vibe (overuse of page links that don't actually use the page's name in the link, for instance), but I think there's some funny stuff in there. Might be worth an edit.

I love the James Bort pages. I was even able to attach some of the stuff I "found" with his story. But yeah, the single word links are kind of odd. It could use an edit. -Izzy

I personally heavily dislike the Roig Syndrome; it's in entirely poor taste. Homophobia is not a proper source of humor, seriously. I think it should be deleted, or at least put into a "Real-World Fan Speculation and Conspiracy Theory" section. James Bort, I believe, is a bit much; he doesn't really fit in the world, he always kind of clashes--mostly the way the Wiki, rather than describing him, tends to fawn over him. Encyclopedias are NPOV, and the James Bort pages are love letters to James Bort. Perhaps a subtle joke (even the author is in love with him) but to me it comes off more irritating than funny. However, with significant tweaking, I think he could fit in nicely. Kill the one-word links, don't use unnecessary fawning adjectives (seriously, does half of every article mentioning him have to be a description of how wonderful he is?), and, for God's sake, tone it down a bit. It's a good idea to work off of, but it's overdone. - patkelly

I went ahead and made some edits to the main James Bort page. The original thrust *ahem* of the article is the same. I just undid the custom-named links, tightened up the grammar, and made the article sound more encyclopedic. While I'm here, I'd like to comment on the Roig thing again. Lucres makes a good point in that selectively deleting articles can very quickly get out of hand. However, I must admit that I'd still be in favor of scrapping this one, or at least shifting it from Rumor to Dumb and Unfounded Urban Legend (any takers?). I use the occassional gay joke in a lot of my articles, but the Roig stuff is just tasteless and without purpose. -Jonny D

Eh, I still don't really like James Bort. I'd kill it if it were up to me, or at least remove most references to him and keep him a one-shot joke. - Lone Pawn

Yeah, I personally don't find the Bort page to be that funny (though there are a couple of nice lines in there). However, none of us are in any position to go erasing articles just because we don't care for the humor. If the article is outright offensive, that's one thing, but it's silly to try to legislate one's persoanl tastes. -Jonny D

Yeah, the Bort case is kinda weird. It seems the majority finds it unfunny--which would logically disqualify it from a humor-based project--but basic wiki mores keep the damned thing alive. -patkelly

Ok.. I've changed the Bort page significantly... If I can get buy-in on this new version I will go around and ret-con the referencing pages. -tim

Wonderful. I've cleaned up a few minor references to Bort in that page--you left a few Borts in your excellent clarification. This new version actually seems to fit, though, and I vote for changing all Borts to your article. -patkelly

I like it! The "Disputed Lands" bit was a nice touch. I move we accept it as edited. All in favor, say "Aye"! ~Lucres

I. -patkelly

The thing is done.

I have moved James Bort (Disputed) to the Archived section.

I've updated the original James Bort page as I figure it best to actually clarify the reasoning behind this whole thing. - Xaph
