High Elemenstor Jox Poxi

A powerful Taste elemenstor, and possessor of the Bell of Decisiveness (the same one to appear in Book 9). Little about Jox's history or origins is known. He was transported through magical means to the planet Chrmkqzx during an epic battle against Ng the Vile.

There, the struggle continues. So single-minded are these two combatants in their desire to eradicate one another, no effort was apparently made to find a way to return to Battal. After untold centuries, the struggle slowed to a ponderous cold war and it would appear that both sides reached a peace, if not a contentedness, with their new planetary home. In fact, in the end of Retroguard Action and Sky's Octothorpe, Jox returns to Battal in order to thwart Ng the Vile's attempt to conquer it by manifesting a constructed dimensional plane above Battal's surface. After the defeat, both parties return to Chrmkqzx, presumably returning to the status quo.

The majority of the native population of Tribbits, Cohoris, and Quilp mostly live peaceful lives and view Jox Poxi as their eternal king, although there is some evidence that a triumverate of chancellors from each of the tribes meet regularly in order to deal with administrative concerns and bring important issues to the attention of Jox. There is a "criminal element" of disenfranchised inhabitants (as there are in all societies) who are involved in the criminal organizations who are all, to some degree or another, related to the syndicates controlled by Ng.
