Item Law #190

Evil Containment Clause, Addendum

  1. Any Item designed for the containment of Forces of Evil may not contain the aforementioned Evil for a period in excess of one thousand (1000) years.
    1. These years must be consecutive, with no gaps or partial unleashings.
    2. At the end of the thousand year period of Containing, the Evil must be released. The Item is forbidden from automatically Recontaining the Evil by any means. Any Recontaining must be initiated by a third party (preferably after an Epic struggle). This third party may use the Item to recontain the Evil for another thousand years, if they decide that destroying the Evil forever would be too much hassle.
    3. The Item is forbidden from giving any indications of the Duration of Containing remaining in any of the first nine hundred and ninety nine (999) years following the initial Containing. After this period, the Item may freely by any legal means, indicate the remaining Duration of Containing. No indication need be given, although this could be considered bad sport.
    4. The length of the containment may not be reduced on account of good and/or evil behaviour of the Contained Evil. Premature Uncontainings initiated by a free willed third party, or one commanded, persuaded, deluded, seduced or otherwise influenced by any of the Evil remaining (for whatever reason) not fully Contained are exempt from this limitation.
