Item Law #50

Extended Item Naming Code

  1. As per Law 1, magical items must have unique names. To allow for that a system for naming and describing items efficiently and uniquely has been introduced. Although use of this code is not by any means required by item makers, items that fail to be named uniquely after their fourth submission will be renamed by the board using these conventions.
    1. The occurance of duplicate superlative adjectives, if appearing more that three times must be compressed and anotated in the name by the inclusion of the word followed by a multiplier, and the number of uses for said word.
      1. This can apply to any repeatable describing adjective.
      2. Example: Bag of big, big, big, big Empty Space would more correctly be called the Bag of {big*4} Empty Space
    2. Common adjectives applied to magical items can be abbreviated in the attribute code section of the name, which will appear directly before the name of the item. The each letter of the attribute code represents a single (1) describing word that is a truthful representation of an effect of attribute of the enchanted item.
      1. The Attribute Code

B: Burning

C: Cold

D: Dark

E: Elemental

F: Firy

G: Bloody

I: Icy

H: Hot

K: Bright

M: Mighty

R: Enchanted

V: Vindictive

W: Wet

X: Big

Z: Holy

    1. Example: The Mighty Burning Cold Glaive of Thoromir would be more correctly The {{MBC}} Glaive of Thoromir
  1. The attribute code may be further enhanced by multipliers by within the attribute code section dividing the primary grouping into multiple subgroupings each with a single code letter and a multiplier.
    1. Example: The Big, Big, Cold, Cold, Cold, Icy Grail of Impending Doom would more properly be called the {{X*2}{C*3}} Grail of Impending Doom
  2. Common postfixes may be uniquely registered with the Item Nomenclature and Terminology Ecclesiatical Realm Naming Interstesis Council (INTERNIC) which will return you a Globally Unique Item Demarcator (GUID) which you can substitute for your postfix.
    1. The postfix must be used at all times when referring to the item (to cut down on confusion), and a list of GUID to proper wording translations can be viewed at the INTERNIC.
    2. The postfix may alternately be added parenthetically, but this seems unnecissary.
    3. Example: This allows two items named The Big Ax of Perfect Cleaving to uniquely be identified. By both item makers registering for a phrase GUID for of Perfect Cleaving the two items can be referred to as The Big Ax {1AE4-87BD-9E25-FG83} and The Big Ax {F782-8GG3-7C82-1111}, thereby eliminating any confusion.

Notes

The story of how this law is came to exist is chronicalled in Quintak's Burden, which tells of how Lord Quintak Hoch was driven to secretly using Dark Elemenstation for item enchantment because it was suspected that all unique names for magical items were taken. The addition of this law allowed for near infinite variety of naming, but incredibly lengthy and unpronouncable item names such as The {sharp*8} {noisy*2} {{W*14}{XZ}} Helmet {5897-2AB9-98F2-64GG} (of Lofty Appearance). As a result Law 49 was put into place because this Law was instituted, under which said helmet was nicknamed Albert.
