Let's See Who Can Be the Quietest For the Longest Day, or The Forebearer's Relief Day
This holiday, originally conceived on The Sickle by parents who were tired of coming home after a hard day's quest every day, the Forebearer's Relief Day takes place once every eleven weeks. During the day, all children are shuttled from wherever they may be educated, apprenticed, taught, bought, fed, or otherwise kept active, to the town square. Strangely, the activities involved after this are not related to being quiet, but rather to make as loud of a noise as possible. The children are often given a number of props and tools with which to make as much noise as possible. This immense work of noise serves to temporarily deafen the children, lasting anywhere from six hours to a week or more if they leave early, depending on the turnout in any given village. A village Elemenstor then comes to the town square after all have fallen deaf, silences all noise in the area so that he can concentrate on curing the deafness, and proceeds to do so. A vaguely-categorized "unfortunate" side effect of this tradition is that the silencing spell takes effect on the children as well, forcing them to become mute for as long as the Elemenstor wishes. Some unfortunate children have had this occur shortly before the Elemenstor dies on an epic quest, leaving them permanently silenced. For this reason, the holiday is rarely practiced outside of remote areas of The Sickle.
