Manslaughtering

Manslaughtering is amongst the most popular sports in Battal, especially in the Sickle Region where it has a long tradition under the name of Gladiating.

In a standard match of Manslaughtering, two teams of nine members each meet. The game itself is divided into nine innings, and those further into half innings.

During an inning, one of the members of each team will come out into the diamond of the Maiming Arena and fight until one of them submits or falls and can't get up. Each of the first or 'top' half of an inning consists of fights with very light to no armor and very light weapons. The second or 'bottom' half of an inning consists of the contestants armed with ridiculously heavy armor and comically gigantic weapons. Fights tend not to finish in the top half because of the skill of the contestants, but there are very rarely instances when the sheer weight of his arms and armor will not cause a Gladiatingor to collapse in the bottom half, assuming his opponent does not make him do so first. On the off chance that the fight lasts through the whole inning, an extra inning will be played after the other nine if it could potentially break a tie.

Manslaughting is known for the large number of statistics associated with players in its professional form, the MLB, as well as the nearly-excessive rules and regulations for a game which consists of brutal and bloody combat.

Variations

There are several variations on the common rules, however most believe that these variations are a perversion of the noble spirit of the game. Such variations are therefore normally frowned upon outside the specific regions in which they originate.

Ezermethalon (Northern) Rules

In Ezermethalon the game is played using a variation of the common rules. The key change is that one player on each team wears a purple hat. This player must not be attacked at any time except when they remove the hat, however in turn they cannot attack while wearing the hat. The hat may not be removed for more than an eighth of one inning, nor worn continuously for more than one inning. If, at the end of a match, either of the hatted players are deemed to have misused the privilege of the purple hat, they are both instantly put to death in boiling oil.

Terle Rules

In Terle the rules require a random draw at the end of game, the winners of which are put to death in boiling oil.

This is believed to have been introduced because the people of Terle liked the boiling oil, but disliked the purple hats

Comments

I remember there being a rather extensive condemnation of the inclusion of extensive descriptions of the sport of Manslaughtering in Book 5 after those kids ended up in hospital apparantly trying to play the game. Anyone else remember that? Think it was back in 2000. - Xaphod

I'm pretty sure it was 2000. I think it happened in either Delaware, Denver or Detroit. But I can't recall which. It definitely ended badly, I seem to recall a lawsuit as well. I've been looking for a link. - Angus
