The Mute Blade of Non-Life

History

The legendary Forge-King of the Dwarves, Gragnakas, forged many swords over his lifetime, but none was such a failure as the Mute Blade of Non-Life. According to legend, the Mute Blade of Non-Life was created not in the wondrous mountains of Grothondogrim as most of Gragnakas' swords were, but rather in the Unothath Desert. With sand and soot, Gragnakas toiled on his anvil, hoping to create a sword like no other -- the first to be forged in the sands of Unothath. In the end, Gragnakas succeeded -- but in a horrible way. The result was the Mute Blade, and instead of shimmering like Gragnakas had hoped it would, it was a dark, depressing sword, that tortured the spirit of any who saw its dull blade. Nobody in his right mind would take up such a sword, and thus Gragnakas threw it into the depths of the Unothath Desert, hoping that nobody would ever see it.

Until 18,485, the Mute Blade was just that -- a blade, mutely contemplating its Non-Life. However, as its anguish and resentment towards the world -- specifically, Gragnakas -- grew, the blade began to be so angry as to actually come to Life by itself, without the need of Elemenstation. It travelled under the sands for quite some time, and fed itself by devouring as many grains of sand as possible, strengthening its Earth element. When the Four Underdogs defeated Char Reyarteb in 19,116, the Blade, sensing a huge power suddenly leave Battal, rose out of the sands to take its place. Using its perfected Earth element, the Mute Blade was able to summon for itself a Whispurr Liar of sorts -- a humanoid golem that wielded the Blade and followed the will of the sword.

Botched Reign of Terror

Starting in 19,485, exactly a millenium after the Mute Blade's ascension to Life, the Mute Blade -- and its golem -- began absorbing the Non-Life of any and all objects that it touched. It was in this way that the Mute Blade finally became not only Mute, but also an indirect manisfestation of Non-Life; thus, the Blade was aptly named by one of the remaining Dark Elemenstors as the Mute Blade of Non-Life. This caused a severe shortage in furniture that was able to be transfigured, and thus Elemenstors looked frantically for the source of the problem. In the meantime, the Blade cleverly avoided all of its pursuers, and continued to absorb the Non-Life out of furniture. Unfortunately for the Blade, the prodigal son of the Starborn Gem, Aklom Reklats, found the sword and its golem, and proceeded to absorb its force for no reason whatsoever. Soon, the Mute Blade of Non-Life regressed into its original form (the Mute Blade), and Aklom Reklats became the new indirect-indirect-manifestation of the Non-Life.

The Keeping

When the Elemenstors discovered the fallen Mute Blade, they immediately recognized it as the reason why most of the furniture of Battal was no longer transfigurable. At a loss as to what to do, the Elemenstors read ancient tome after ancient tome, hoping to find some situation in which this had occured before. Finally, the Elemenstors found a way to keep the Mute Blade from becoming self-aware again, from a tome titled The Legend of Adlez -- to have six of their wisest sages to seal away the Mute Blade in six different parts of the world, and summoning a Whispurr Liar to guard each piece.

It is debatable as to whether or not doing this will actually work -- it is possible that the Mute Blade will eventually become even more resentful and angry, and somehow become even more powerful than it once was. However, Elemenstors as a whole are entirely confident about the entire situation.

Speculation

The recent fanfiction Tales of the Prancing Rhymester heavily features a magical axe called The Despondent Cleaver of Unothath, an item with properties that are similar if not identical to the Mute Blade. According to the story the Mute Blade attempted to create progeny so it could have something else to dump its emotional baggage on, but all the attempts were failures in its eyes. In the foreword the anonymous author claims that the story was approved by Tycho Brahe himself, making the Despondent Cleaver officially part of ELotH:TES canon. This is highly unlikely due to the fact that axes make lame sentient weapons.

Discussion

What's the canonical reference for this material?

I thought EVERYONE knew of the Mute Blade and its evil exploits -TychoCelchuuu

Holy Crap awesome art you got there! It's exactly how I imagined it! -Izzy

For some reason, the art has been deleted. I have no backup, and I have no idea who the hell killed it off. - Ryoji
