Nixwing the Dark
The primary antagonist of Book 8.
Once a benevolent sorcerer King and the ruler of Eldersbane, Nixwing ruled over his country with kindness and wisdom. Until the neighboring kingdom attacked during the Vampyric Wars, seeking out the forbidden item known as the Orb of the First Evil which the royal family of Eldersbane guarded.
Pacifistic, the King had no choice but to form the Archmagi of Eldersbane and to begin using the Orb of the First Evil themselves. This allowed them to escape by withdrawing into the castle and levitating it away.
However, the corrupting power of the Orb prolonged their lifespans unnaturally and turned them and the peasants who sought shelter in the castle into mutated Juicebats. In the end, only King Nixwing remained, half-disfigured and growing more mad by the day. He transmogrified the Chthonic Swinemen and caused them to revolt as a practical joke.
This ended when Asana Millytopthought confronted him, and after a series of adventures in the labyrinthine Eldersbane, Asana destroyed the Orb and freed the people of Eldersbane from their accursed state.
