Passage of Years

Elemenstor Gearstrike Episode EG101

First aired March 8th, 2005

Summary

The first episode is mainly a telling of what happened during ElamenSTAR and Advent ElamenSTAR, from the perspective of our somewhat disturbed heroine Mayumi, an average girl with a decidedly non-average love of pointy objects.

As Char Reyarteb's dominion over Battal rises in the absence of the Four Underdogs, Mayumi bitterly goes through the motions of being swept into a world where she has no apparent place. Despite the absence of the Four during her stay, she gets into similar problems as in the original series. Eventually she leaves her companions and studies on her own.

In the third act of the show, we catch up to Mayumi, currently living in a ramshackle shack in the woods, as she finishes work on enchanting one of her box cutters, a weapon she calls Shiv and Let Die. As she completes the enchantment, she looks up and sees Yellow Fang walk the path to her shack. He informs her that there is a resistance rising against Char Reyarteb, led by a quartet calling themselves the Four Underdogs. Mayumi decides to finally live up to her title as Magic Rune Knight, and leaves with him.

Notes

This episode was shown to the staff after it was completed. Someone (it is unclear who) proceeded to pirate the file. It currently enjoys sporadic upload on various websites, though it is inevitably taken down. Finding it is quite tricky.

Some have found the middle segment of the show, which ends with Mayumi giving a baby a roundhouse punch, to be in bad taste. These people have been sued to the fullest extent of the law for having pirated the episode.

Post-Airdate

The show is a decent success in Japan, although there is not an especially large media blitz (although there is a considerable flux of fan pornography). It can now be pirated with slightly less chance of persecution. Fansubs are reportedly underway.
