Peep Eggs
Peep Eggs are a delicacy unique to Battal. While the parent fowl are soft to the point of being mushy and pliable, the eggs are actually harder than the hardest known element on Battal, Hardium (Battal Scientists have created several isotopes of Hardium, known as Really Hardium, Extremely Hardium, and Notreallyhardiumatallium. The only thing that can cut open a Peep Egg is another Peep Egg fragment (though it is suspected that several of Battal's magic swords are probably hard enough). Peeps lay their eggs on the top of Mount Windice, where the fires and ices alternately warm and cool the eggs until they hatch. Because Peeps are susceptible to heat, cold, water, predators, and high winds, it is amazing that any survive to procreate. Each year, late in the year (or early in the next year, depending on how time traveled one is), the peeps begin their migration to the peak of Mount Windice, the "March of the Peeps". They will lay their eggs, and then most likely die.
The eggs themselves are described as "Pretty darn good", or "Too hard to eat," depending on how they are cooked. Only the War Men eat raw Peep Eggs, bashing them together or on the skulls of other war men. Thousands of Peep Eggs were consumed during The Great War Of The Warlords, which nearly led to the extinction of Peeps.
