Penny Arcade Conspiracy Theory Discussion

Back to Penny Arcade Conspiracy Theory

Should this be deleted? First of all, I think there's more than enough Penny Arcade references to ELotH:TES that it should be obvious to everyone. Nobody takes the PACT seriously; I hadn't even heard of it before. - patkelly

I don't know. I mean, when you repress this stuff it just feeds the conspiracy theorists themselves, since the deletion of their efforts is seen as part of the so-called "conspiracy". I say that sunlight is the best cure for such absurd notions, since anyone who looks into it or any of the scholarly writing on it in (which should soon appear in Literary Criticism) will quickly realize that, like most conspiracy theories, it is a transparent fraud. Just my two-cents -- dan.heck

Have you guys even heard of this conspiracy theory? I've been actively involved in the community for years, and this is the first I've ever heard someone mentioning it. I seriously doubt that this is believed by anyone; as such, it isn't descriptive of an actual phenomenon existing within the ELotH:ES fandom. The purpose of this wiki is to serve as a compilation of all those things pertinent to the Saga, and so since this article clearly isn't contributing to thatpurpose in a meaningful way it might as well be deleted. Vanity articles like this one are needless clutter. -- Id_42

Perhaps this page could be used to discuss the references to Penny, and The Satchel in so many of the Elemenstor novellas, instead of this ludicrous claim. -Sinbad_EV

That's a great idea. I mean, we can use this page to demonstrate the obvious fallacy here by simply comparing the real world timeline to the later emergence of allegedly "similar" characters on the Penny Arcade website. Any similarities are either the product of chance or the deep impact that ELotH:TES had on those two guys over at Penny Arcade. I believe that the one who calls himself Gabe has already admitted to being a "fan", and his work does appear to be entirely derivative of the style used in the Wizbits cartoons. -dan.heck

just to clear the air, I don't believe this theory, it was brought to my attention by a skeptic for whom I have no respect. I just thought it best to shine light on the subject, because as stated above, it just feeds into the whole stupid thing otherwise. I'll consider this as an example of poor style, take my lumps and move on. Sorry. -e

I know that it can be confusing to those who somehow missed the fact that many of the fantasy products marketed over the last decade have actually been derived from the ELotH:TES universe. Although you've certainly seen some related products if you've been living in the U.S. or Japan for the last decade, you may not recognize their source. So yes, it is clear that the Wired magazine hoax is all a fake. I find it amusing, but many fans feel snubbed by it. So yes, it is all a fake. dan.heck

Has there been success in lobbying Google to re-load the old ELotH:TES newsgroup archives? I still don't believe their reply that they "lost that box in a fire." -jerobi

Whoa, what is up with everyone needing proof? I mean, I know the whole deal is pretty complex, but c'mon. Hey, does anyone have anything from the old tesBBS? It was running up there in canada... used to play teshack on it all the time. -phurisher

I find it disgusting that such a vibrant fan community could be considered 'fake'. The mainstream press just doesn't understand us at all. I'm off to play with my Limited Edition Phila doll. - Stephen

Tanktunker: I am offended that you would bring the lies of the PACT to this humble wiki. Please take your slanderous remarks elsewhere. -Kazenodeku

Whoa Kazenodeku, I think Tanktunker was just misunderstood. I guess its reasonable to question, and in the end, he obviously found the Wired prank hilarious. You might not share his opinion of the gag, but he's obviously not a raving lunatic. dan.heck

Oh sure, and you'll doubt the existence of your breakfast next. kmr

Well, so long as your articles remain accurate to the Saga, we welcome them. So far, even though you do seem to maintain the strange and offensive assumption that this is all somehow 'a fake', you have nonetheless shown an impressive knowledge of the Saga, which somewhat contradicts your own assertions. If it really is fake, why do you keep adding to it? Anyway, it doesn't particularly both me either way; just keep what you write canonical and non-contradictory, and we'll keep it, whether you believe it's fake or not. -Terraxos

I have a theory that the Epic Saga is so well-known, so ingrained in our collective unconscious, that even people who have momentarily forgotten actually reading the books, buying the CCG, watching the cartoon, playing with the toys, etc., still have amazingly clear memories of the details. For this reason, even someone who thinks the books are a "ruse" will still usually write canonical information when they update. -Montykins

What on Earth do you mean, Tanktunker? This is certainly real. And I must say, you have an impressive grasp of canon, so I don't see how you could possibly think it's fake. Are you trying to lend credence to the conspiracy theorists or something? I don't want to call you a troll, but I mean, you gotta be careful with that, man. Some people will believe anything, and you don't want to mislead them. -patkelly

Just got my hands on some ELotH:TES goods, I deleted all my former comments as they were obviously misleading. -Tanktunker

Finally, Tanktunker has become a believer.

Those Penny Arcade guys are dedicated to encouraging the PACT. Look at the http://childsplaycharity.org wishlists. Not a single ELotH toy on them! I'm not saying ELotH toys in general are hospital-safe, but there are a few really good ones this year that should totally be listed and aren't.

I think that since ELotH toys have hospitalized more children than all other toys combined, it would be in bad taste to do so. -patkelly

I think that's just all the more reason to assume kids in hospitals are ELotH fans.

After the Lord Hopebane's Super Poison Chemistry Set, Wizbit hologram watches, and Dragon Fist Power Armor debacles, I'm not sure there's a hospital in the nation willing to let anything with a Wizbit on it on the grounds. -patkelly

Speaking of http://childsplaycharity.org, what about setting up something like a CafePress site (or one of their competitors) with ELotH merchandise, and donating the proceeds? I know we're just fans, and not the true copyright holders, but if the proceeds go to charity...?

I believe that Koopa is responsible for accusing Gabe of plagiarising - WELL IT'S NOT! That is merely his redrawing of a cover of Der Elemenstorer first CD. He simply redrawn this in his own style. It's worth mentioning, that official portraits of Ronard and Zonard are really resembling Gabe and the other guy (Is he named Jack?) from the comic, and the band's cover featured lead singer Hans Straffer and the drummer, Bob. - Angry Jake
