Originally the punchline to a long furnie joke at conventions, the Plane was later incorporated into canon in the radio dramas.

Not totally sure about this one. Can someone try to find the joke and the reference?

I'm sorry. That is not going to happen. Those of us who were there have sworn a pact never to repeat that joke. It should never have been told, and those of us who heard it will spend the rest of our lives trying to forget it. The therapy is coming along nicely, thanks.
