Description
The chief goddess in Quilpism, Quilpma is the mythological mother of the Quilp species in Quilpism. In traditional Quilp religious art, she is depicted as an eight-legged (as opposed to the usual six) Quilp with unusually large and interlocking quills (this feature is significant due to the fact the the quills of male Quilp point upwards and those of females downward - Quilpma's quills pointed both ways). As her first act as goddess, she interlocked her quills to form the Quilp, which she commanded to go forth and kill as many cows as possible. Unsure of what to do with the myriad dead cows thus made, the Quilp decided to make their skins into shoes. This led to good tidings.
According to traditional mythology she is married to Quilpda the father of the Quilp specie, mother of Quilpboi, sister of Quilpa and Quilpo. See the short story What the Quilp? for the meeting of Quilpma and Quilpda.
Though a great and powerful goddess with an unusually pronounced hatred of cows, she died giving birth to the great son of the great mother of the quilp, later dubbed Quilpboi. What she granted her children in pointiness, ability to kill cows, and skill at sewing leather, she apparently skimped out on the ability to name.
