Remniki's Tale

The Wizbits, Episode 103

Aired 21 September, 1999

Summary

The second aired episode of the series. This episode contains many stitched together scenes from the Japanese version of the previous two episodes. Remniki the Eye-Bearing Watcher Of Visible Things tells each Wizbit his or her own story -- how they found their gem, unlocked its power, and set forth on the path of Elementstation.

Moral

Zula: Sometimes it's hard to listen, especially when the speaker is old and boring. But there's all kinds of things you can do to pass the time; you can twiddle your thumbs, you can doodle, or even mentally undress the speaker! If you ever have problems paying attention, just let your mind wander off.

Notes

Episodes like this one are why serious ELotH:TES fans were turned off to The Wizbits in America. In the Japanese version of the show, the gems are unlocked in a series of episodes as part of the overall story. But, when it was translated and edited for an American audience, the producers wanted more action and less storytelling... hence the one-episode runthrough, and severely confusing story elements. Reused animation became the norm, and the quality of the show suffered severely. On the bright side, the second season is much closer to its Japanese counterpart.

Comments

For those wondering about the Japanese version, Lander unlocks his gem in The Wish of the Elemenstors and Phila/Penny unlocks her gem in Fun at the Hot Springs!. Wendel/Skip actually unlocks his gem in the later episode The Dark Secret of Wecret. In its original format, this episode is indeed a sort of flashback episode, but it is only Zula's flashback of unlocking her rubian and it does not employ recycled footage. ~Kenneth Pike
