Ring of Immortality
The Ring of Immortality is probably the most powerful ring ever crafted by the Ringlings. Even they were amazed at the power of the ring, as most of their previous rings did things like make everyone in the vicinity wheeze or deflect every third raindrop a bit to the right. Emboldened by what they rightly believed to be their finest creation, the Ringlings set about finding a use for the Ring of Immortality. It was powerful, yes, but could it really help them?
"It is perfect," said Claygon, shielding his eyes from the epic glow of the ring, "so perfectly perfect! Surely, no champion of Khith nor Men nor even the Elves may stand against our Champion who wears this ring!"
There was a long pause.
"Soooo..." intoned Drenn the Ring-Polisher, "are you going to put it on?"
"Who, me? No, no, no... I couldn't. I mean, we need a Champion, a great warrior, bold adventurer, you know... that sort of thing."
"Oh. Do we... do we have any of those?"
"Not really." Claygon sat down and sighed heavily.
"I suppose if we weren't Ringlings, we could have used it."
"Yes, but then we wouldn't even have it in the first place. I think next I ought to make something we can actually wear... maybe a Ring of Irony."
-- from the novel, The Item Guild Wars
The answer came in the form of S'yrf'yl the Immortal. Understandably, S'yrf'yl was not chosen while he was immortal. Rather, once he received the title of Champion of the Ringlings, they bequeathed him the ring, whence came his title. The Ringlings, who had never enjoyed fighting, now had a champion who wore their most powerful ring. What could stop them now?
Not much. As before, mostly the Ringlings only had problems with the Khith every once in a while. But they soon realized that this powerful new leader could help them with their "really big mystery." They began to urge S'yrf'yl to undertake all sorts of Epic quests, including the Great Journey of Two Months of Great Joinification'ing and the Resistance to the Second Rising of Vhadxi. This was partially to increase the prestige of the Ringlings and the Ring of Immortality, but also at each conflict, the ringlings would bring out That One Ring, and see if this was the Epic conflict where the ring would reveal its true purpose. At the same time, the Ringlings would watch to see how well their ring of Immortality performed. Even the Ringlings doubted that their ring actually protected the wearer from everything, so they pretty much urged S'yrf'yl into all sorts of situations and then watched really closely to see if he died.
Truly the ring would remain the only one of its kind, its powers never to be paralleled throughout the long history of Battal, as its crafting was attributed to Claygon. (See Item Law 431: Claygon Clause)
