King Ronard the Shorter

Ronard the Shorter (583 - 1,003 TMSK) was a fairly uninfluential king as far as kings and influence go. He succeeded his father, King Ronard, the first Magic Sword King, who had ruled for a very long time using his very strong powers of persuasion and his Very Large But Unenchanted Spikey Hammer.

Ronard the Shorter has no claims to his name. He made no major improvements and did no great injusitices, but sat in his throne instead, ate, and threw fits at people who referred to him as "the Shorter." His halls were sparesly populated, as he was unable to welcome many guests due to his legendary flatulence, but, at the very least, the legends of his flatulence are still passed down to this day. He was succeeded by Botard the Great and Judicious and Such.

It was his lack of strong leadership that allowed infighting and inaction of The Kings Council. This weak central government set the stage for the Vampyric Wars, which happened during his reign as high king and ultimately ended his life.

Ronard the Shorter's younger brother, Ronard the So-Very-Short did very little of historic note other than eventaully father Frogeater Notapuppet late in life. Frogeater would eventually carry on the royal line of Ronard after Botard the Great and Judicious and Such died childless.

I thought ronard the shorter was struck down in ~1,000. don't see any mention of that in the wiki but I had thought that there were two different high kings during the vampyric wars although I know it was ronard when the war started.

I think we need to reconcile some dates--I think someone's math is off. Ronard (*the* Ronard) died in 583, the wars started in 803. Ronard himself did not take part in the wars, AFAIK, as he was long dead by that time. My impression was that Ronard built a stable empire which lasted until the Vampyres took it down... and even though the ruling council was destroyed and the "12 kingdoms" weren't really an empire anymore, the Magic Sword Kings Period persisted for many thousands of years. Perhaps it was a younger Ronard that you're thinking of...?

At any rate, the lifespan of Ronard the Shorter was a lot less than this, I think.

yeah.. I have been thinking for a little while that something has been amiss here, just not quite sure what it is.

we know for certain that in 790 ronard the shorter was still king from the entry in the vampyric wars. so his reign was at least 207 years. not sure we have any solid evidence of his doings one way or another after that, although the Amego Boots-On-His-Hands entry indicates that the armies of mandleclang still use ronard's name (may or may not indicate he is still in power)

Hmmm, good point. In the "King Ronard" entry though we get the statement that Ronard the Shorter succeeded Ronard, and his "brief reign was noted solely for the king's excessive bouts of flatulence." Two-hundred and seven years... I guess that's brief by Magic-Sword-Kings standards?

I'll bet the author was just trying to be witty rather than strictly accurate

Makes sense. As for the armies of Ronard, we know that many of Ronard's descendants were Magic Sword Kings, so I imagine it just has to do with his line. I'll fix the death date, anyways.
