Shirook

Below the fog on the Ravaged Plains of Yymp lies the ruins of a vast and once prosperous city. The young boy, Yorn, travels through these ruins, on the run from some mercenary soldiers in the Tales of Yorn.

Yorn's first glimpse of the city is in a prophetic dream.

He began to feel dizzy and lightheaded. He looked down and saw the mist part and hidden within it was a great city, a city whose very walls were of the purest gold as bright as the sun. Its fountains poured crystal clear water, its pathways were layered in silver and its door were encrusted with gems. But this city had no citizens to fill its market places. There were no children to play in its streets. There was no one. All was quite, all was peaceful. Then dark clouds formed above. Yorn looked up and saw a dark figure falling from the sky. It was a man dropping through the layers of clouds. A look of terror was frozen on his face. The backdrop of storm clouds played about ominously behind him. Then there was a flash. A bolt of lightning struck him and arcs of firey light fluxed across his body. Finally the rips of electricity culminated into his one outstretched hand, a clenched fist.

As he fell past the point in space where Yorn was suspended, helpless, time seemed to slow to almost a halt. For an eternity and a moment, Yorn was staring into the mans wild eyes. Then the man collided with earth with a loud crash. In the distance, a church bell rang. All around the man cracks formed in the ground. His hand opened limply and from it fell a golden coin. The great city began to collapse. Walls and building crumbled away as huge crevices opened in the ground. Everything was decaying and caving in upon itself. Cries rang out from the empty streets and corridors.

Yorn's vision blurred and everything began to be drawn together into one singular sphere of light in the center of his vision. A brightly glowing point. He looked intently and saw that it was his key, hanging around his neck, reflecting the last rays of the setting sun. The ground below his was again engulfed in the thick fog that covered the landscape.
