Starfruit

Extremely powerful magical fruits that grow in areas of high background magic, or locations where the walls between the various dimensional Planes have worn thin.

They may grow from any plant as long as there is sufficient magical radiation, and it is nearly impossible to tell where they may show up next. Starfruit are highly prized for their various magical effects which vary greatly depending on which variety is consumed. There are many varieties, and most are so rare, making a comprehensive list is next to impossible.

Most of them more or less resemble a five-pointed star with a crude face of some sort. They come in a variety of colors and often have some animalistic qualities, such as the ability to move about. Studies have shown that Starfruit actually originate from the FaeriWraithe Lands, but were transplanted into Battal.

Cultivation, picking, hunting, and consumption of Starfruit is chiefly managed by the Starfruit Gourmand Society.

Starfruit Varieties

Basic Starfruit

The most common type of Starfruit, it is colored bright yellow, just like an actual star. Its only special effect is to enhance the magical effects of other Starfruit if eaten with them. It is the least expensive to purchase from gourmet food merchants.

Blue Starfruit

A simple blue-colred Starfruit. Bestows the consumer with three times their normal strength, but reportedly tastes awful.

Brown Starfruit

An unappetizing Starfruit that allows the consumer to converse with any Creature.

Green Starfruit

Eating this amazing plant will give the consumer the Knack for 24 hours. Eating two of these within the space of one week will cause one's head to explode. If an Elemenstor eats one, they may lose the Knack for a period of up to a year. Banned in most areas.

Rabid Starfruit

A brown, fanged fruit that constantly foams at the mouth and thrashes about. Increases the eater's strength, but unfortunately infects them with rabies. If left to its own devices and put on a leash, it can find other varities of Starfruit via smell.

Silver Starfruit

A somewhat rare variety that turns bright silver after ripening for 1000 years. Reported to taste delicious, and also allow the consumer to sense and track down silver.

Spotted Starfruit

Only truly notable for tasting exactly like chicken.

Starfruit of Joy

A shining Starfruit with a gigantic smile. Causes uncontrollable levels of happiness in whoever eats it, similar to a recreational pharmacutical. The favored food of Humble Mice.

Villain Laugh Starfruit

A black Starfruit that constantly laughs evily, even when consumed. Found growing in forests. When consumed, increases one's agility as well as improving one's ability to laugh in a creepy, villainous way.

Zebra Starfruit

A striped Starfruit that tastes like several different fruits mixed together. Gives the consumer the ability to blend in with savannah foliage.
