The Sickle and the Sword

The Wizbits, Episode 307

Aired 20th October, 2001

Synopsis

An anonymous tip directs the Wizbits to Blackshadow Skullspire, where they expect to find free ice cream, but instead find Char Reyarteb, ready to fight against the pesky Wizbits and finish them off for good.

Of course, things to not go as planned for Reyarteb, and the episode ends with the Wizbits ultimately killing Char, in what would come to be known as Battle of Blackshadow Skullspire.

Moral

Lander: Well, today we were promised ice cream by a stranger, and it led to something really terrible. We may have defeated Char, but there's still evil out there, so remember, if someone you don't know offers you something that's too good to be true, it probably is. Goodnight kids.

Notes

This episode represents one of the largest departures from the rest of ELotH:TES canon in terms of major world events and details the Battle of Blackshadow Skullspire. Almost all of the animation created for this episode is original, and quite well done. It is evident that this episode was designed to be the series finally, based on epicness and budget, but James Langomedes decided at the very end of the production to move it forward in the season because he wanted to do something "really grand" with MooMaa.

It is also obvious from the curious moral that Langomedes had initially planned to air this episode as a Friday night primetime special, but it still aired in its regular Saturday morning time slot. It is said that a large number of American children went to bed before noon on that day.

It is suggested near the end of this episode that Zula has been secretly brainwashed by Char Reyarteb, perhaps to bring him back from the dead somehow. This is an implication which is ignored throughout the rest of the season; many fanfiction authors use this point of divergence to develop the Wizbits into a darker, more mature story. To this day, some fanfic authors refuse to recognize the legitimacy of the offical "Season 3B."
