The Shushipodia Empire

A massive underwater advanced civilization of sentient octopi founded (accidentally and unknowingly) by Harbinger Portent in approx 17,000. Located at the bottom of R'ylugia-Squeak-Click-Click (Great Blue Father) east of The Shield.

Early History

When a mysterious Black Monolith was cast into the Ennumerable Sea by Harbinger Portent, the object rapidly evolved a species of Octopuses. The constructed small underwater settlements. Soon they were building rudimentary devices. After that they build larger structures and large underwater vessels (giant leviathon craft open to the sea known as Shushelcraft).

An Expanding Society

Shushipodians are an arrogantic, xenophobic race who care only of expanding The Shushipodia Empire. Using their sophisticated technology they have systematically driven the other sentient ocean-going races from their domains. They drove the Dolphinthropes largely onto shore and the coastal shallows. Equally, the Mer-Mundanae were forced into subjugation or hiding. They are the major naval force in Battal, controlling almost all of the Ennumerable Sea with their Shushelcraft, and constantly trying to extend their territories into the Unnamed Sea. They are blocked however by the cold northern seas, in which their body functions shut down and their ships will not function, and to the south where the Battal Crabs block their passage in any amount of force through the Vile Sea.

They are known to mistrust landgoing species, but have no interest in interfering with above water affairs. In fact, cornered by above water inhabitants of Battal (dry-backs, as they call them) they will often openly deny that there is a Shushipodian Empire at all. They none the less terrorize any sea craft that stray too far east of land. A notable exception was the period of naval trade during The Sundered Era. They are known to have great fear and respect for the kings of Alfafanar, whose ships passed through their waters frequently during this period.

The Fall of Squid

The Empire was largely wiped out in 35,700 TE by The Great Reseating. Only a few rogue Shushipodians survived. Nothing remains of their greatest accomplishments and constructions; giant undersea coralwork skyscrapers, airquaducts, and lavish shell art galleries.

Other notables

• In the center of a subterrainian labarynth in the center of the kingdom's capital of Trshl-Click! is a portal to King Mountain, its location a secret to all but the most elder of the Shushipodians. This portal briefly appears in the episode of The Adventures of Isaac and Raven, The Mysterious Vortex and the Valley of the Giants, as well as being used often by Octoman in Octoman: Lost Prince of Shushipodia.
