The Trench-Diggers Clan

The War Men lived for the longest time in the Savage Barrenlands, a subterranean realm carved through the rock of Battal itself. While many of the caverns and interconnecting passageways of this Nether World occurred naturally, of course some were created by the hands of the War Men themselves. Over time a clan would form around this specialised skill. The original War-Tongue word is unknown; most War-Tongue words known to the scholars of Battal are remembered by those with quick ears and even quicker feet* so the description Trench-Diggers was adopted.

War on the Rocks

While contemporary War Men culture does little other than Kuluk'hab'pa and Kuluk'shokurung and shuns or ostracizes other less war-like activities, even their culture recognises the need to burrow and explore and carve new places to settle out of the crust of Battal itself. The clan assumes this role between Wars and digs encampments and tunnels during them.

Rockeater, the Great War Whisk

The staff of office for the current Highest Lowtrencher Rockchief, it is a fearsome construction by even War Whisk standards. Its whirling blades are longer, sharper and stronger than any other War Whisk in the land. It can slice rock and earth, skin and bone alike and still make a delightfully light and fluffy dough.

A Rough Chronology of the Clan

  • Digging and Burrowing and Making Love and War for many years until:
  • Gr'z'tok convinces the clan to join with the other forces amassing for an Epic Battle, Siege and Cookout at Arkleaf
  • 17,952 - Attempts to tunnel under the Gates of Arkleaf in an effort to break the Siege
  • 17,956 - Many die when their tunnel caves in under the sheer weight of War Men's bodies above

* Hence war cries such as "Kuluk'hab'pa'hab'u'an" feature heavily in many War-Tongue translations.
