Trisha

Yorn's girlfriend in Tales of Yorn. She lives on a farm upon one of the Great Plateaus with her kindly Aunt and Uncle. They took her in after her parents were killed by Brom and Brog in the Blood Wars.

Yorn's pace began to slow as he reached his destination. He climbed the mound of rock that protruded over the edge of the cliff. Then he saw her at the very end of it. She was sitting with her hands tucked between her knees with her legs hanging off the edge of the cliff.

"Boy, that was beautiful, we gotta watch that again tomorrow," Yorn said hopefully.

She turned her head to face him. The muscles in her long slender neck tightened. She gave Yorn a scornful look with her large almond shaped brown eyes doing more to excite him than for what it was meant. Yorn could not help but smile.

"Do you find this amusing?" she demanded.

"Your face is not one suited for anger," he replied. But this response only made her angrier.

"You promised we would watch the mist settle." she said in a hurt tone as she turned her head back and lowered it. A wind came, combing her hair back into the position it was in before the anger took control. Yorn walked over and crouched down next to her. He put his hand under her chin and raised her head. His gaze met with hers and a tear welled up in her eye. This filled Yorn's heart with more sorrow for what he had done than anything she could have said. She sniffled and wiped away her tear and half smiled, allowing the brightness of the sun into her face. Yorn smiled, seeing that the damage was minor. He looked into her eyes and spoke from his heart.

"Ever since I have been on this plateau my life has been an endless sleep. Without you I would not dream. I agreed to meet you up here, but it was not to watch the mist for with you on this precipice they pale in comparison. The mist has been driven away by the sun, and it too will soon set. But your love is not bound by the sun or time of day, in my eyes, it is everlasting. Tomorrow, if you wish, we may meet to watch the mist settle."

Trisha's eyes were overflowing with tears, but this time the smile was brighter than ever.

For the next few hours Trisha and Yorn just held each other. Trisha fell sound asleep with her head draped over his right shoulder. All was soft, all was warm, all was peaceful. Yorn was certain that he had found heaven.

In the core book, the conversations between the hero, Yorn, and the character of Trisha are in the the stilted form of poetic high fantasy. Consistent with the style of the novel, it is recognized as being not entirely realistic. Included for interest in the book is Appendix C which claims to offer a peek into conversation between the two characters that happen "off camera" so-to-speak. These are filled with the awkward and self concious stops and starts that fill so many early adolescent interactions between the genders.
