UnUndead

Definition: Being so undead that you regain life.

Paradoxical and mostly illogical, but the one true chance of returning somebody from an undead state to living. Oddly, Life magic cannot unundead creatures; however, certain bassal Death gears can induce a state in such a creature. Most Death Elemenstors use Birth From Death as a punishment rather than a restorative--killing a foe, raising him as a zombie, then, when he gets nice and fetid, turning him unundead and leaving him alive and with large pieces of him rotted away. Understandably this leads to further death. Et cetera.

It should be noted that the Necromancer spell Unmake Dead is related to this phenomenon. It is technically possible to leave an undead subject in a live state with advanced use of this spell. However, due to magidynamic entropy, which does not affect gears, the subject's decayed body is invariably unable to sustain life.

Unundead are still magically (and legally) distinct from the living, as they are still capable of being affected by spells, gears, and powers able to affect the undead. Also, according to the laws of most societies, because they are still technically somewhat dead they cannot legally own property. Those that have recovered from being ravenous corpses often describe the tradeout as "a gyp."
