Unmake Dead

Just as the spell of Make Dead creates death, the spell of Unmake Dead banishes it. This can have different effects depending on the amount of Death inherent to the target of the spell, and the difficulty of performing the spell successfully also varies depending on the circumstances under which it is cast.

Unmaking Dead dead things

The Unmake Dead spell is most commonly used in the removal of a dead body, either for sanitary or legal reasons. If the body was originally created using the Make Dead spell, then it is returned to the mystical aether from whence it came. If the body occurred naturally (that is, it belonged to a living creature that died), then it is literally unmade, separated into constituant parts on a microscopic level. In this case, all that is left of the body is a small pile of dust and a faintly unpleasant smell.

Unmaking Dead undead things

By removing any trace of Death from an undead target, the Unmake Dead spell technically leaves the subject alive (see UnUndead). However, since the spell does nothing to reverse the decay of muscle tissue, the circulatory system, or brain matter which occurred while the creature was dead or undead, the target invariably dies immediately upon being Unmade Dead.

The Unmake Dead spell is an effective means of killing the undead, but since it is more difficult to cast Unmake Dead on an undead creature than to banish the creature by alternative means, it is never used in this capacity. Thus, this effect serves only to provide sufficiently obscure information for instructors at the Dark Destruction University to base their pop-quizzes on.

Unmaking Dead isn't-really-dead-but-injured-enough-to-seem-that-way(Mostly Dead).

If Unmake Dead is cast on someone that is Mostly Dead they will be rendered mostly alive. The part of them that was once alive becomes dead but hey that's why it is a death spell.

Unmaking Dead living things

Theoretically, casting Unmake Dead on a living creature would render the subject immortal. In accordance with Elbhart Ynsteine's Theory of Specialist Relations, the process of Unmaking Dead a living creature would necessarily cause the destruction of the universe. It has never been performed successfully.

Moved the reference to UnUndead up to where it belongs. Casting second-level Unmake Dead is related to the UnUndead. Casting third-level Unmake Dead destroys the universe.
