The War of the Taints
By R L Stine
The shopkeep stood and looked incredulously at the weary adventurers. Looking from one mud soaked cloak and bedraggled filth streaked face to the next his gaze fell on Phillyan in his spotless gleaming white robes, his golden hair only so slightly mussed.
"What's your story then?" he asked with a pointed look.
"Err... I don't get dirty," he stammered apologetically.
A story set in the foggy early pre-history of Battal, when the map of the world was much different than the easily recognizable landmasses of The Shield and The Sickle of later works. One of the best stories set in this period it covers much relating to the wars and lands of this period, primarily focusing on the exploits of the Band of Men as they travel through the eastern regions of Lavatoria and Zonardia.
Other Interesting Trivia
- This novel contains one of the few references to The Dark Furniture Prince, and as the practice of spotting these references is tremendously popular among certain segments of the fan base, the price for this book on ebay is typically easily triple that of most other ElemenstorLance books.
- The price of the book could also be attributed to the particularly alluring cover art of the second edition.
- It is in this book that an explaination is offered for the sundering of Zonardia at two points in the timeline.
- The Grim Elves, although playing a fairly minor role in this book, were a quite popular and unique invention and the race appears again in an expanded capacity in The Elfin Factions Tetragy
