War Banner

Back to The Siege of Arkleaf

War Banner

A great fluttering banner held high above an army, replicas of which adorn their encampments and are often painted on their armour and shields. Designed to inspire loyalty and pride in its soldiers and to strike fear into the heart of their enemy. Also helps a dazed soldier to work out which side of which pointy object he should be on in the heat of Battle.

War Banner of the Higgerath

A well-known example of a specific War Banner which flew atop the Lowtower after it had flown atop Gr'z'tok's Command Tent* during the Siege of Arkleaf. At first it was the usual red and white and yellow with a hint of blue featuring multi-bladed axes and symbolic Hoargs, but then in 17,949 it was revamped with the skin of the Grim Vapor Lords and the Three Years of Rejoicing the War Banner did ensue.

It's a shame that the original drawing of the Banner in the Plunder of the Barrenlands book is in black-and-white. It's almost not worth scanning it. I thought it was pretty cheap too, considering they actually described the colours in the footnotes, why not just print it in colour to begin with? --Simon.

* Technically it flew atop a dummy tent, you know, just in case, but flew atop the real Lowtower because I mean, when you're a tower made of stone and earth you're all, "Bring it on!"
