Wendell Blunder

One of the Four Underdogs who attempted to defeat Char Reyarteb and MooMaa in Book 4. The group later defeats Char Reyarteb as told in the Elemenstor Radio Dramas (and also the novel Saga of the Rebuilt Kingdom) in year 19,116.

Wendell Blunder - a tall, red-headed young man in his late 20s with a firey temper - appeared one day out of the North, in the village of Briz Bitters in Morlond's Field. He made crazy demands, and the villagers laughed, for they were used to crazy jabberings of the mentally infirm. Then he made a herd of goats burst forth in great gouts of flame. No longer did the villagers laugh.

Wendell had an easy life. The villagers were weak and easily manipulated, and he had his pick of the young women of the town as well. No one could resist him - that is, until two strangers came into the village. Strangers with powers very much like his own.

They must be challenged, Wendell thought, and taught the respect he had taught the others. But that is not the way the fates had scripted that day. By the time Wendell awoke in the back of an oxcart, the village of Briz Bitters was already a dark speck on the distant horizon in the predawn light.

Wendell travelled with Lander and Fanta and eventually developed a respect for them bordering on friendship, but of the fourth companion to join them, Myrtle, this could not be said.

Eventually Wendell Blunder, in a karmically delightful twist, was drawn into a campaign to free Battal from under the tyrannical thumb of Char Reyarteb.

Wendell ultimately became the first Grand Elemenstor of Fire.

Notes

Interestingly, Wendell's archetype was very similar to that of the Ice Elemenstors, and so he is considered an honorary member by most of their ranks.
