Where is that Pesky Chasm?

The Wizbits, Episode 309

Aired 3rd November 2001

Summary

The Wizbits drop by a town next to a great chasm, only to find it's in big trouble--the chasm has been radiating Fire energy, and is about to become a volcano!

Penny reads up on the place and finds out that the chasm is the Chasm of Eternal Sorrow, site of the Million Year War, which she notes only lasts 1000 years. The author of the tome she researches, Seer Liebchek, objects to Penny complaining about his math, but does not explain why. He enlists the Wizbits to find the chasm's heart and keep it from erupting. The crewe sets out to the monster-filled chasm.

Throughout the episode there are frequent shots of MooMaa's Darkrift Fedora, for seemingly no reason. But at the end, MooMaa himself materializes just above his hat--only to be ambushed by an unseen foe...

Moral

Skip: Sometimes it seems like grownups don't know what they're talking about. They may even be blatantly wrong to the point where they can't possibly be proven correct. You know what we Wizbits think? (poorly spliced in) "Just smile and nod! Yes, that is best."

Notes

  • There are many odd edits in this episode, which edit out a subplot concerning a displaced Japanese schoolgirl and her own struggle with enemies they never intercept. At points the two groups met up and dueled alongside each other, hence the strange and fast cuts in the fight scenes.

  • The original moral concerned Skip advicing the kids at home to rebel against authority while cutting themselves. This was edited out at the last minute by a different voice actor imitating the typical VA. This was the least of the editing room's problems, as the director had donned yellow tatters and a porcelain mask, running through the studios with a giant pair of scissors and howling "I wear no mask!"; while this was a fairly common event in the studio, Langomedes was unusually loud this time, which bothered some.

I know that this episode has some info on the Million Year War, but I don't own the series and never watched these accursed things. Could someone with more fortitude wrest the crucial ELotH:TES information that I crave from this episode?

Basically, the Million Year Wars were fought in a chasm by some horseless nomads. The opposing team, a mystic kingdom, made a pact with the spirits of hate to give whomever entered with thoughts of peace the power to change the world. Apparently, the guy who came in thinking only of peace flipped out from the power and brought ruin down unto the warring kingdom and nomads. It's implied they were taken from this reality to continue their war in a place where time went strangely and inconsistently, and that the Million Year War was finally drawing to a close in that other world, as the nature of their plight was returning to Battal. Or that's what I got out of it, there's lots of theories.
