Zik
The hero of Tales of the Forever Road, he was an ever-merchant who owned a shop on The Forever Road until he traded his best sword for a powerful ring. It all began when one of his regular customers, Ghithik, walked in claiming to be flat broke, but in need of a sword. Zik noted that Ghithik was wearing a ring that politely disclaimed its epic nature with glistening runes and convinced him that even though the ring was valuable, the sword would be a good deal.
When Zik tried on his newly acquired ring, he was given a vision of a disaster beginning in the waysides The Forever Road. Realizing what would happen to his business in such an event, he set off to stop it.
He eventually encountered the person who was about to set in motion the event, Harmus the Geographer, who had just completed a map of The Forever Road that unwittingly contained information that (due to strange wording and phrasing) formed a series of incantations that could lead to the destruction of the road, and possibly tear apart the very fabric of reality in Battal.

It should be mentioned that the forever road isn't all that long, so I'm wondering what Zik's writer meant.

You forgot about the waysides on the road. The branches mentioned in its description that comprise the bad part of the strip.
