Zonardia

Also known as the Floating Continent, the Lost Continent, the Misplaced Continent and Good God I Hope I'm not Under It if It Ever Comes down. It is the long lost "other third continent" of Battal (the two others being The Shield and The Sickle and the other other third lost continent being the Cataclysmic Bluont), it was long thought to be legendary and non-existant, much like the Eldersbane. However, it does exist, it just floated up into the sky, also like the Eldersbane. The island is the home of the Star Dragon's Heart, a gigantic prism that suspends the continent in the sky and causes it to orbit around Battal's atmosphere. Zonardia's existance is unknown to most of Battal. It usually remains floating over the ocean, and those who report seeing it are regarded as "out of their fucking minds."

Zonardia is approximately the same size as the Shield, albiet much harder to get to. It is populated by the Zonardians, and their amazing mounts, the Quasars. It is the primary setting for the Quasar Riders of Zonardia series of books.

History

In the The Hierarchy Era, the Sickle and Zonardia were once part of the same landmass, however the ancient Zonardian stargazers noticed a massive object known as the Giant Meteoric Cow was heading towards their country. In order to save their land, the Zonardians fused together 7 gigantic chunks of rubian along with 50 Quasar hearts to create the Star Dragon's Heart, via which they were able to awaken the Allsoul of the country itself and Transchant it into a gigantic, ambulatory landmass. The resulting movement of the continent, known as the cataclysmic Presundering in academic circles, raised the level of the eastern sea and sunk the continent of Atlantistantinople.

The Great Reseating

In an epic event of geologic upheaval, Zonardian mystics returned Zonardia to the surface of Battal in year 35,700. This even is referred to by residents of Zonardia as The Great Reseating where as residents of The Shield and The Sickle referred to it as One Big Mess, which set off earthquakes and tidal waves across the land as well as making several large communities of sea life very very unhappy. Now an easy Dougboat ride from the southern tip of Ahmawn Stick on The Sickle, trade, travel, and commerce resumed, resulting in a marked increase in both Zonardians and perhaps more interestingly Duruds in the rest of Battal. This is seen most strongly in the Crystalcrown Chronicles where Jonnah Goes-Along-With-It the Zonardian and Mruh the Durud are both prominent secondary characters.

Other Misc Info

  • The currency in Zonardia is the Snogar. A loaf of bread costs about three snogari.
  • The only Dwarves of Zonardia live in Ecco Caverns and they are generally disliked by, and dislike, the population of Zonardia. They are so vicious as to be almost feral and rarely appear on the surface of the floating continent. This is due to the Zonardian tribe of Drawves once tunneling so deep into the continent that a large portion of them fell out the bottom, and it nearly sundered Zonardia in twain. Luckily a large number of Earth Elemenstors were able to repair the damage quick enough, but most of the population still carries a grudge against the Dwarves.
  • The only significant population of Elves of Zonardia are a tribe of High-Elves who live in a village called Psilocybe, a town made up of houses carved out of gigantic hollowed-out fungi in the Shroom Forest. They keep on meaning to expand their territory, but always somehow manage to forget.
  • The seventh herd of minotaur (who call themselves The Last Ones) roam the grasslands south of Chilly Willy Peak, but they always stay north of the ruins that they consider to be haunted by ghost-dogs (save for the fiercest of their Duruds).
  • Loftia and Gerr are apparently named after the brother-sister twins that founded Zonardia.
