EFWQ Tactics Neo

A port of EFWQ Tactics for the Sony PSP.

 

Essentially the same game that was a critical darling and a commercial non-event.

 

The character art was re-worked to support a muted color pallette and slightly more stylized character sprites.

 

The plot remains the same but additional play time is added to the already long (100+ hours) and replayability is added through the dynamic advancement path system (DAPS) for professions. DAPS allows the player to take a character of any profession and advance any skill (at a penalty for non-primary skills) and potentially move from any profession track to any other profession type in the game when certain skill criteria are met. An example would moving a high level zoo keeper with all his points spent on songestry over to the bard profession. For the most part there isn't a reason to do this as it requires burning job points on advancements that come at a much slower pace, but gives players the ability to alter the jobs of certain plot-based party characters, and take advantage of their special bonuses applied to different jobs.

 

The only complaint is that, unfortunately, the art in the games few cutscenes was not updated and does now look a little dated. Additionally, when changing certain plot characters to certain jobs, some mission text was missed and the new dialog still appears in the original Japanese. This is particularly true for any scene involving Daramar Darkwine, where he has been changed by the player into any professions other than Guy Who Owns Lots Of Really Cool Stuff or Collector.
